Experience RA'CINE VODOU

WHAT IS HAITIAN VODOU

VODOU is not a religion, but a spiritual practice based on ancestral tradition and culture. The practices focus is on the traditions left by our ancestors and those that came before us. Vodou is the empowerment and harmonization of nature, the four elements of the universe, the ancestors, and the spiritual cosmic mediums. The most important thing in vodou is your ancestors... Vodou encumbers all forces of nature and the universe in a conglomerate practice.

in essence, Vodou is an oral tradition practiced by extended families that inherit familial spirits, along with the necessary devotional practices, from their elders. In the cities, local hierarchies of priestesses or priests (manbo and oungan), “children of the spirits” (ounsi), and ritual drummers (ountògi)  compromise more formal “societies” or “congregations” (sosyete). In these congregations, knowledge is passed on through a ritual of initiation (kanzo) in which the body becomes the site of spiritual transformation.

In vodou the world death does not exist, the term used is jambe. Vodou is metaphysic, mathematical and astrological. The loas are the intermediaries, the supreme mystere that exists between  the worlds and humanity. In vodou we have several forms of spirits, we have the loas, the gad, the pwen and many other myseres that exist. They are served, they are distinct beings with their own special likes and dislikes, distinct sacred rhythms, songs, dances, and special mode. Vodou encompasses an exceedingly complex practice and magic with complicated rituals and symbols developed thousands of years ago.

In vodou there is a combination of 21 rites. The rites in vodou are a conglomeration of supernatural origin and in the form of astrological & geographical origin. Vodou is essential to the knowledge of the mysteries. The vodou pantheon is composed of loa GAD, & Pwen that come from all part of Africa and with the blended culture of the Taino who resided on the land know called Haiti prior to slavery. Other tribes that consist of vodou are Nago, Yacouba, Ibos, congos, Dahomeyan, Senegalese.

Loas are spirits in both african and Haitian vodou. Many loas are premodial as many are in part from dieties venerated in west africa, especially fon, Yoruba and Dahomey. There are over thousand of loas each with their own characteristic and function. The loas work in escort and assit us in our d
